Jet City named #1 "Staycation" destination

Well, there you have it, Everett.

Everett--our Jet City--has been named the number one destination for a "staycation" this year according to Expedia.

Seattle has always been a no-brainer when it comes to great destinations. It's gorgeous city-scape set right against the Puget Sound is home to the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, and the Museum of Pop Culture to name a few tourist highlights. But never before has the city to the north of it been highlighted as a go-to destination.

According to Expedia, Everett is the seaport town with gardens, must-see museums, and multi-cultural meals. To those of us who live here, we can agree that there's a lot of hidden gems here in Everett that deserve to be highlighted. From historic theaters to parks right on the water to a vibrant wine and beer and farmer's market culture--Everett has developed from a small mill town to a sparkling destination that features the largest building in the world (Boeing) and one of the most diverse melting pots of cultures, foods, festivals, and music.

When it came to choosing the top 8 cities for the best "Staycations" writer Kohleun Adamson said that there were several factors they looked at and they wanted to feature small and midsize cities that had unique attractions, landscapes, parks, landmarks, and "locally loved dining".

"We selected places that are often overshadowed by larger cities in the same region—not only do these communities not get the attention they deserve, but they’re often the go-to destination for residents of the larger cities and vice versa," said Adamson. "And lastly, we love to highlight communities where people gather and share their local culture, which is really important for a great staycation. Some of our articles feature destinations with a unifying theme, like most beautiful or best shopping, but each of the hometowns I wrote about for the staycations have something to celebrate and no two selections are the same, and they’re located all over the country.”

For many of us living in Everett we've yet to explore even half of what this city has to offer. But now that we landed at the top of a list, it's a pretty good reason to start exploring.
