Sorticulture Turns 22 This Year

“Now in its 22nd year, Sorticulture is Everett’s official start of the summer season,” said Lisa Newland, Everett’s own Cultural Arts Coordinator. “Gardeners looking for specialty plants and those looking to add a bit of whimsy to their yards look forward to Sorticulture every year.”

Sorticulture began as a one day art show in the Evergreen Arboretum within Legion park before growing so large that it was moved to the park itself. It has been a three day event since 2008.

This year you’ll be able to take it in at the Legion Memorial Park at 145 Alverson, from Friday June 7th through the following Sunday. Don’t forget that it’s free to the public and the doors open each day beginning at 10am. Friday wraps at 7pm, Saturday at 6pm, and Sunday at 4pm.

“More than 150 artists, plant nurseries, display gardens and vendors are participating in this year’s festival. A food court features savory bites and sweet treats, and live music and a wine garden add to the fun. Ciscoe Morris will be on hand at 2 p.m. Saturday to answer gardeners’ toughest questions. Children’s activities include face painting, art projects and wood carving.”

Because parking is so limited, attendees have the option to park at Everett Community College and take the free Everett Transit shuttle down to the park. The shuttle begins at 9:30 am on all three days, and runs often. If that’s not your thing and prefer the two-wheeled variety of getting around, you can use the new Lime scooters downtown, or ride your bike and park it at a secured valet corral which is staffed by Sharing Wheels.
